After a long hiatus, BlizzCon 2026 is getting closer. The traditional event from Blizzard Entertainment will take place on September 12 and 13, 2026, at the Anaheim Convention Center in California, bringing players, developers, artists, and communities together once again around the company's major universes. Blizzard has already confirmed that the event will feature an opening ceremony, developer panels, hands-on experiences, and major announcements.

The 2026 edition also represents an important moment for the company. BlizzCon does not currently have the same frequency or impact that characterized some of its most famous editions, especially after several years without an in-person convention. The last edition took place in 2023, while Blizzard decided not to hold the event in 2024. Now, almost three years later, the company intends to turn its return into a kind of reunion with its community.

And the timing could not be more interesting. As anticipation surrounding BlizzCon 2026 grows, World of Warcraft has just received one of the major content updates for Midnight: The Curse of Ula’tek.

World of Warcraft heads into BlizzCon with The Curse of Ula’tek

World of Warcraft The Curse of Ula'tek Coiled Isle

World of Warcraft: Midnight is currently at the center of WoW players' attention. The expansion represents the second chapter of the Worldsoul Saga and takes players back to Quel’thalas, as Xal’atath unleashes a new threat against Azeroth. The expansion has also introduced major features such as Housing, the allied race Haranir, the Demon Hunter's Devourer specialization, and new dungeon, raid, and Delve content.

Now, the The Curse of Ula’tek content update, which launched on August 11, continues the campaign presented in Midnight and opens the way to the mysterious Coiled Isle. The story follows Zul’jarra as she pursues her brother, while the events reveal long-buried secrets on the island and a threat connected to the Amani and the entity Ula’tek.

The update is more than just a continuation of the story. The Coiled Isle introduces new activities, public events, the Vaults of Atal’Utek, Curse Surges, Cursed Fishing, new Lairs, and three new Delves. The content also introduces the eight-boss raid The Venomous Abyss and the three-boss dungeon Altar of Fangs. Midnight Season 2 begins on August 18, expanding the selection of Mythic+, PvP, Delves, and rewards.

This puts World of Warcraft in a particularly interesting position heading into BlizzCon. The story of Midnight is still unfolding, but the structure of the Worldsoul Saga points toward The Last Titan as its next major chapter. Blizzard has already presented the expansion as the sequel to Midnight, making a new demonstration or development update one of the possibilities being discussed for the event.

What has Blizzard already confirmed for BlizzCon 2026?

Although many details are still being kept under wraps by Blizzard, some information has already been officially revealed. The Opening Ceremony will feature major announcements and take place on the Main Stage, once again located in Hall D. The event will also feature playable demonstrations of World of Warcraft, Diablo IV, Overwatch, Hearthstone, and Diablo Immortal.

Another highlight will be the return of the Blizzard Arcade, allowing visitors to experience classic and current games from the company, including StarCraft and Heroes of the Storm. The schedule will also include developer panels, esports competitions, Community Night, the Darkmoon Faire, and other traditional convention attractions.

Among the confirmed competitions are the Overwatch World Cup, the World of Warcraft Arena World Championship, the Mythic Dungeon International, the Hearthstone Masters Tour World Championship, and the inaugural Blizzard Classic Cup.

There is also a confirmed musical act: the group LE SSERAFIM will return to BlizzCon to perform the closing show on Sunday, September 13. The performance will follow the group's appearance at BlizzCon 2023 and is also connected to its previous collaboration with Overwatch.

Could BlizzCon 2026 mark a new phase for Blizzard?

The importance of BlizzCon is not only about the number of games presented. For many years, the convention served as one of Blizzard Entertainment's main showcases, capable of turning expansion announcements, new games, and updates into major events for the industry.

The current landscape is different. Blizzard has undergone significant changes, spent several years without holding its main in-person convention, and now operates within a broader franchise structure under Microsoft. Even so, the return of BlizzCon comes at a time when World of Warcraft, Diablo IV, Overwatch, and StarCraft each have different stories to tell.

Blizzard itself has stated that the 2026 edition will feature an opening ceremony with major announcements, as well as hands-on experiences and new formats within the event. In-person tickets have already sold out, although public resale is available.

For this reason, more than simply marking the return of a convention, BlizzCon 2026 could serve as a showcase for Blizzard's future. World of Warcraft has the continuation of the Worldsoul Saga on the horizon, Diablo IV continues its content cycle, Overwatch continues expanding its universe, and StarCraft has returned to the center of speculation.

And there is still the possibility that Blizzard is saving its biggest surprise for the main stage. After all, one of BlizzCon's historical characteristics has always been its ability to turn announcements into major moments for the community.
