GTA 6: Leaks Reveal Another Technical Leap from Rockstar

New GTA 6 gameplay leaks began circulating on August 18, 2026, once again raising a discussion that has followed the game since its first reveal: how far does Rockstar intend to push the technical capabilities of Grand Theft Auto VI?

Without reproducing or directing readers to the leaked content, the materials that circulated reportedly show different elements from a development build, including vehicle systems, animations, environmental interactions, and character details.

Some of the material may come from older versions of the game and therefore does not necessarily represent the version that will be released. Rockstar has also reportedly taken DMCA action to remove copies of the videos.

Rockstar once again appears to be raising the bar

What stands out most about the leaks is not simply the graphical quality. It is the number of details and systems working together.

Reports mention vehicles with more detailed damage, interactions with doors and objects, storage inside cars, possible fuel systems, physics, water, vegetation, and characters with an impressive level of modeling and animation.

These are elements that may seem minor individually, but when combined, they help create a much more convincing world. And that seems to be precisely Rockstar's philosophy.

The evolution of Red Dead Redemption 2 is still present

It is impossible to talk about this without remembering Red Dead Redemption 2. Even years after its release, the game remains a benchmark when it comes to detail and simulation in open-world games.

NPCs have routines, animals display different behaviors, objects feature contextual interactions, and the world constantly reacts to the player's actions.

GTA 6 appears to be taking this same idea to an even larger scale. Rockstar does not seem to simply be trying to make a game with better graphics. The goal appears to be creating a world where more things can happen, react, and function simultaneously.

Characters are becoming increasingly realistic

Another aspect that stands out is the evolution of the characters. Since the official trailers, Jason and Lucia have already demonstrated a considerable leap over previous protagonists in the franchise.

The materials that have now circulated reinforce the impression that Rockstar is investing heavily in modeling, animation, lighting, materials, and facial expressions, aiming for characters that do not simply look like extremely detailed models, but are truly integrated into the world.

This is particularly impressive in an open-world game, where these characters need to function across a huge variety of situations.

But is GTA 6 really worth all of this?

There is also an unavoidable question. The standard edition of GTA 6 is being sold for $79.99, while the $99.99 Ultimate Edition is also available.

Considering everything Rockstar appears to be putting into the project, it is possible to understand the argument for a higher price, but it also raises another question: will this level of quality be enough to justify the new price point for AAA games?

Because GTA 6 may deliver an absurd amount of technology, content, and detail — but that does not necessarily mean that other games adopting the same price will be able to deliver anything close to this level. Perhaps that will be one of the most interesting aspects of its release.

GTA 6 could become another technical benchmark

Even though its gameplay style is not necessarily my favorite, it is difficult not to recognize what Rockstar is capable of achieving technically. Red Dead Redemption 2 remains an incredible example in this regard.

And based on what the materials currently circulating suggest, GTA 6 could once again raise the standard for open-world games.

Now we have to wait and see how much of this technology will be present in the final version and, most importantly, whether Rockstar will be able to turn all this technical ambition into an experience that truly lives up to the enormous expectations surrounding the game.

GTA 6 arrives on November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

What do you think about the new leaks? Could the technical evolution shown by GTA 6 really establish a new standard for open-world games?
