Ragnarok Online Brazil Shuts Down Its Servers Today, Marking the End of an Era for MMORPGs

After 22 years of history, one of the most important chapters in Brazilian MMORPG history has officially come to an end. This Wednesday (July 29, 2026), at 10:00 PM (BRT), the Brazilian Ragnarok Online servers, operated by WarpPortal BR, will be permanently shut down, marking the end of an era that helped shape generations of players.

More than just a game, Ragnarok Online became a cultural phenomenon in Brazil. For more than two decades, thousands of players built friendships, found love, forged guild rivalries, and created memories that will live on long after the servers go offline.

The End of One of Brazil's Most Influential Games

Released in the early 2000s, Ragnarok Online quickly built a massive Brazilian community. At a time when MMORPGs were still a novelty for many players, Gravity's title offered an expansive world filled with exploration, character progression, Guild Wars (WoE), MVP hunting, and an incredibly strong social experience.

Much of that success was also thanks to Level Up!, the company responsible for officially bringing the game to Brazil. The publisher played a crucial role in popularizing MMORPGs across the country, introducing Brazilian gamers not only to Ragnarok Online but also to several other iconic online titles, including Grand Chase.

For years, crowded LAN houses, internet forums, Orkut communities, and later social media groups became the birthplace of countless stories created inside Rune-Midgard. For many Brazilians, Ragnarok was their very first MMORPG.

WarpPortal Invites Players to a Historic Farewell

In its official announcement, WarpPortal BR stated that this final period is meant to give the community an opportunity to celebrate the memories built over more than two decades of adventures.

"Ragnarok Online is part of Brazil's internet culture and gaming history, and we are proud of the impact we have had on so many people. We hope that during this period everyone remembers the friendships, relationships, and even families created through the game, and looks back with great affection on the role Ragnarok Online Brazil played in our lives."

The studio also encouraged veteran adventurers to revisit Prontera, Payon, Geffen, Alberta, and many other iconic cities that have been home to millions of players over the years.

There's Still Time to Experience the Final Moments

Players with active accounts can still log in before the official shutdown. The servers will close today at 10:00 PM (Brazilian time), making this the last opportunity to reunite with old friends, revisit classic maps, capture screenshots, and take part in what will certainly become one of the most emotional farewells in Brazilian gaming history.

Even for those who haven't played in years, it's worth logging in one last time to walk through Rune-Midgard, reconnect with veteran players, and celebrate a community that helped shape the history of MMORPGs in Brazil.

Ragnarok Online Will Continue Through the LATAM Server

The shutdown marks the end of the Brazilian server, but Ragnarok Online will continue to be officially available across Latin America through the Ragnarok Online LATAM server, which brings together players from multiple countries in the region.

However, it's important to note that characters, accounts, equipment, items, and in-game currency will not be transferred from the Brazilian server. Players who wish to continue their adventures will need to start over on the LATAM server, as WarpPortal confirmed that no progress from the Brazilian service will be migrated to other official servers.

Although the game will continue at a regional level, the closure of the Brazilian server represents the end of a unique identity built over 22 years, during which it became home to one of the most passionate MMORPG communities in the country.

It's also worth remembering that something very similar happened to Grand Chase in 2015. Years later, the game returned through Steam, giving fans another chance to experience the classic. Perhaps someday, Ragnarok Online could follow a similar path.

The End of a Server, But Not Its Legacy

Few games have built a community as passionate as Ragnarok Online. More valuable than rare equipment, powerful cards, or high-level characters are the friendships, unforgettable stories, and memories shared by millions of Brazilian players throughout its 22-year history.

When the clock strikes 10:00 PM this Wednesday, it won't simply be a server going offline. It will mark the closing of one of the most memorable chapters in Brazilian gaming history, remembered fondly by everyone who once stepped through the gates of Prontera in search of adventure.
