Nintendo has confirmed a special schedule for September 2026 to celebrate the 40th anniversary of The Legend of Zelda. The celebration will take place across two presentations: the first on September 8, dedicated exclusively to the franchise, followed by a new Nintendo Direct on September 9.
The anniversary presentation will last approximately 30 minutes. The following day, the Nintendo Direct will run for around 45 minutes and will focus on games coming to the Nintendo Switch 2 during the winter.

Ocarina of Time Could Be the Main Highlight
Nintendo has not yet revealed which games will be featured, but one title is naturally among the most anticipated: The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.
The remake was announced for the Nintendo Switch 2 and is scheduled to launch in 2026. So far, however, few details have been revealed, increasing expectations for a possible gameplay trailer during the anniversary presentation.
It would be an opportunity to showcase the combat, Hyrule exploration, dungeons, and, most importantly, how Nintendo plans to modernize the classic's controls and camera.
A Faithful Remake or a Reimagining?
This will be one of the main questions among fans. Ocarina of Time is considered one of the most influential games in history, so any changes will need to be handled carefully.
In my opinion, improvements to the controls, camera, interface, and quality-of-life features would be very welcome. The ideal approach would be to modernize the experience without changing what made the game so special.
Nintendo has already taken a similar approach with Ocarina of Time 3D, which was developed with the participation of Grezzo. The remake introduced important improvements, including changes to the Water Temple, while preserving the structure and identity of the original adventure.
For this reason, a version that combines fidelity with modern improvements could be the most interesting direction for the new remake.
The Future of Zelda
Beyond Ocarina of Time, the 40th anniversary presentation could also provide clues about the future of the franchise. Following the impact of Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, there is still plenty of curiosity about where the series will go next.
Will Nintendo continue investing in open-world gameplay, or return to a more traditional structure? The answer may not be revealed yet, but the 40th anniversary would be the perfect opportunity to provide some hints about what comes next.
Two Important Days for Nintendo Fans
September 8 and 9, 2026 promise to be important days for Nintendo fans. First, we will have the special Zelda presentation, followed the next day by a Nintendo Direct focused on the Switch 2.
Following the Direct on September 9, there will also be a new edition of Nintendo Treehouse: Live, featuring gameplay demonstrations of some of the games presented during the broadcast.
If Nintendo really is saving Ocarina of Time for this occasion, we may finally discover how one of the greatest classics in video game history has been rebuilt for a new generation.
And you, what are you expecting from the Zelda 40th Anniversary Nintendo Direct? Would you rather see a faithful remake of Ocarina of Time or a more ambitious reimagining?
